Pilbara Ports' operations, marine services and development activities are located in marine and landside environments that have significant conservation and cultural heritage values.
Pilbara Ports recognises the environmental, cultural heritage, social and economic importance of delivering services and activities in an environmentally sustainable and responsible manner and is committed to achieving a high level of environmental and cultural heritage performance through the continual improvement of our integrated management system.
Pilbara Ports maintains a Cultural Heritage Management Plan, which outlines how the organisation operates its port facilities while protecting and managing Aboriginal, historical and maritime cultural heritage values.
The plan has a tiered approach which focuses on the principles of avoidance, mitigation and management. It also provides for engagement with the Aboriginal community and statutory regulators to ensure Pilbara Ports undertakes development and operational activities in compliance with heritage legislation.
Pilbara Ports' Cultural Heritage Strategy identifies six key strategies to ensure the cultural heritage values that occur within Pilbara Ports lands and waters are appropriately managed.
