Berth 3 at the Port of Port Hedland is one of Pilbara Ports Authority’s common user berths, used primarily for the export of salt and import of fuels and general cargo.
Originally built in the late 1960’s, the Berth 3 deck has deteriorated as a result of corrosion and requires replacement.
The project will see the demolition of the existing concrete deck and adjacent storage shed, and the design and construction of a new reinforced concrete deck, installation of new wharf fenders, strengthening of the existing shiploader runway beams, and other ancillary works.
A contract is currently being finalised with the successful tenderer, with an announcement to be made shortly.
The Berth 3 deck replacement will be a pilot project of the State Government’s WA Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS).
WAIPS is designed to enhance industry participation and promote supply opportunities for local industry, promote increased apprenticeship, training and job opportunities in Western Australia, and raise awareness of local industry capabilities.
As a pilot project of the State Government’s initiative, the contractor will report back to Pilbara Ports Authority with details of their local contribution to the Pilbara Region, in addition to their normal project updates.
