Forum Brings Together Live Export Industry
Date published: 29 Mar, 2018 | Pilbara Ports Authority
Pilbara Ports Authority will host its second live export forum on 11 April 2018, ahead of the 2018 live export season.
The forum will bring together Pilbara Ports Authority staff, pastoralists and other industry members, to discuss the potential to build on the Authority’s successful rejuvenation of live export shipments during the 2017 season.
The forum will include a tour of Pilbara Ports Authority’s Port Hedland port facilities, including Berth 2, through which live exports will normally be loaded.
Pilbara Ports Authority carried out two successful live export shipments in 2017 totalling 4,935 head of cattle.
Pilbara Ports Authority has continued to build on its commitment to the live export industry through the appointment of a Live Export Manager in December 2017.
Jon Giles, Pilbara Ports Authority’s Landside Operations Manager and Live Export Manager, will lead the forum.
“Pilbara Ports Authority’s commitment to building the live export trade through the port of Port Hedland is good news for pastoralists in the Pilbara region and the livestock industry in general,” Mr Giles said.
“We want to continue our work with pastoralists and industry with the ultimate aim of increasing the frequency and volume of live export shipments through Port Hedland.”
In 2017, Pilbara Ports Authority invested in a new cattle loading ramp that enables cattle to be offloaded from both the top and bottom levels of a cattle truck, facilitating increased loading rates while representing best practice in animal welfare.
